Poppy Haiku by Virginie Colline

The Corn Poppy by Kees van Dongen

Red poppy petals

the pulse of the cicadas

in the summer’s heart

A puff of autumn

the chill of the coming rain

through her poplin blouse

Her face grows paler

under the crimson lampshades

she falls out of love

A forgotten tear

in the corner of her eye

a very far cry
