The Synergistic Play of Words

Combined effects of words engage more than the essence of their particulars.

Ponder that gauche utterances, pronounced by various mononyms’ periodos,

Incite gangs of men to engage in foolish behaviors else dumb comportment.

Differently, contemplate how poetry’s no longer confined to rhymes; modern

Poesy incorporates verse that might reject meter’s strain, discard the handicap

Of cyclical sounds. Such shrewd assemblages rely on speech’s natural rhythm.

Think on the impact of social media’s exchanges. The associative penumbras

Created via electronic channels forcefully separates folks into classes as well

As generates an unnatural neediness. Interactive reports and films disrupt us.

Che!

Dear Buddy, perhaps you or our other mates could consider the impact

Of casually dropping by, borrowing class notes without returning any,

Lifting favorite jeans from my dresser, startling my tabby into a closet,

Forsaking stacks of dishes on the counter, in the sink, & near the door.

Your camaraderie is priceless but your habit of leafing through journals,

Leaving behind coffee spill imprints, forgetting to flush, always, besides

Scribbling “important” beliefs on my living room picture wall, between

My grandparents’ portraits & my beloved’s visage, causes me to pause.

Perhaps, I should visit your domain, not just text “hello,” but likewise

Knock o’er sundry house plants, nap on your beds, ignore your puppy,

Forget to feed your fish, “preview” your wrapped gifts, use up all your

Hand towels, leave the lights on, abjure our amity on every social loop.

Anhedonia

An inability to experience delight or pleasure means existing in black and white while

Others enjoy Technicolor. Such thin living, that lack of emotions, can’t convey mixed

Experiences. See, expressive forfeiture drains encounters’ dynamism from individuals.

In contrast, persons capable of recognizing euphoria or commonplace bliss ascend alike

Swallows, i.e., as passerines whose multiple fovea perceive superb sensory fields; they

Note otherwise hidden, exultant possibilities owing to eyes gathering plentiful radiance.

Most of us, though, are neither blind to feelings nor equipped like nightjars plus raptors.

Sometimes, we comprehend passions and sometimes we’re as detached as ancient stone.

It’s best if we celebrate discoveries while owning that our radars view few true miracles.
