My First Poem of 2026

Another new year ices up

my windows,

leaving me holding a hair dryer

instead of a sexy martini,

while melting stubborn ice,

especially in the corners,

and worrying about mold

like it’s the darkest future

one could dream of.

a line, (a short blue one)

A Large Empty Sky

A bevy of unsaid goodbyes

is louder than a stamp collection

and squawks inside my brain

sized birdcage, while a sparrow

sings for someone else,

leaving my silence

with unclipped wings.

a line, (a short blue one)

Word Vomit

All the junk in my email

prophesizes my death and ill-health,

but never offers much help

with this strange addiction

some call “poetry,”

which I prefer to think of

as word vomit that threatens

to choke me, if I fall asleep

at the wrong time.

a line, (a blue one)
