Gouda Cheese
by Sarah Wolfe

Until I met you

I never knew how porous the rest were

Every love like Swiss cheese

Contemporary but filled with holes only I can see

And then you

Gouda everywhere

Solid on the inside and out

I didn’t look through you

I couldn’t

So I feasted

Solid and unpasteurized

So rich I could die happy

Even when my insides swell and bulge

I can always find room

Guess I’ve always been love-intolerant before

Not everyone settles inside me like you

did I make you cringe

Good

I’m tired of talking pretty

I’d spread you over bed and crackers

I’ll have you anywhere

Finally sated I look out grey windows

I see bombs on tv

But I lick my lips and look up

And silently thank the stars

    the moon

    the trees

For fucking gouda cheese

a line, (a blue one)
